"First time checking out Douro — first impressions were generally positive. The wine selection was wonderful, and the servers gave great recommendations for pairings. The wine program was definitely a highlight. For small plates we got: — Shrimp cocktail (NR), yummy, but exactly what you expect — Calamari (8/10), crispy and balanced, but nothing particularly innovative — Grilled Octopus (7.5/10), more potato in the dish than octopus. The sauce was basically a very paprika heavy ketchup. I was expecting something with a better char flavor that celebrated the octopus. — Grilled cabbage (10/10, truly a wonderful side. Great textures, and the smoked flavor of the mussels shines. This was the “must get” small plate. Mains: Catch of the day (Halibut w/ herb emulsion) (9/10) very flavorful and buttery fish, bright with great balance. The complete bite with veggies & anchovies came together beautifully. Chicken (10/10), genuinely one of the best grilled chicken dishes I’ve had in Portland. Wonderful sweet & spicy harmony. Papas Bravas (10/10), crunchy like glass, super salty and flavor packed. You can’t ask for more from a potato. Brussels sprouts (7.5/10), love the Marcona almond crumb, but there were too many oranges and the plating was cramped (I made a mess of the table). The space was cute, but I’d be upset if I got seated at the window seats. Definitely need to reserve a table to enjoy the space. Overall, I’d love to rate this higher, but the price was far too high for what it was. We spent >$300 for 2 people. If I went again, I’d just get chicken and a salad, ordering the recommended # of small plates was a poor value for my money. I can’t say this will be somewhere we go often — it feels like it’s not designed for locals. Similar to Twelve and the corporate ilk, it caters mostly to wealthy tourists and wedding anniversaries."

"Had a wonderful family dinner. All food was excellent. Green eggs and ham, haddock cheeks and tail, fried calamari and smoked mussels were excellent. We enjoyed the Cataplana. Loads of delicious seafood. There was an assortment of wines from Spain and Portugal with assistance from the server in choosing the perfect one. Deserts were very good, walnu tart and cheese cake ended the night on a sweet note. Service was unobtrusive. Great suggestions to help with our selection. Quiet and easy to converse."

"The food in the Douro was simply amazing: Deviled eggs and Croquettes both very tasty and elegant, and the Pork Chop on the Bone was perfect! Flavorful smoky and a perfect match with the beautiful Rioja Alta which is available by the glass. Wonderful selection of Madeiras and Tawny as well."
