"I’ve been following Monte's Fine Foods for many years now & finally decided to stop in to try their Roman-style slices. They were thin, super crunchy, & so good! The sauce & cheese were both quality. 🍕 While waiting, the sweets were calling my name, so of course I had to grab a couple of sweet treats! 😋 I also picked up a sandwich, muffuletta salad, & some jalapeño popper goat cheese. "WOW. Monte’s is in the running for best vegan sandwich ever. We hiked over from downtown Portland more for an adventure than because we were hungry, and we heard Monte’s had a great selection of specialty grocery items to browse. However, when we saw their cafe menu, we were enthralled by the vegan sandwich options. We were very impressed that everything is housemade. First, the bread. They have multiple types of slow fermented bread. Our sandwich came on the “pizza bianca flatbread” which seems to be thin pizza crust. It was soo crunchy and fresh. We got the seasonal vegan heirloom tomato sandwich that came with their housemade cashew-based goat cheese. The cheese tastes more like burrata than goat cheese, but it was phenomenal. Our only regret was not being hungry enough to try the pizza or the other signature vegan sandwich, which is made with pepperoni made of pressed tofu. Super innovative and cool. Their fridge is stocked with an impressive selection of vegan items including seitan from Midcoast Vegan and many cheeses. It’s very impressive for a traditional Italian spot to have such well-executed vegan options. It is clear that a lot of thought and care went into designing the menu and stocking the store. Monte’s is well worth the short trip from downtown Portland."

"I originally wanted to come for the pizza, but after reading some of the reviews and seeing the pictures of the sandwiches, I ended up leaving with the Chicken Caesar sandwhich and my girlfriend got the Chicken Club. Wow, absolutely incredible. So fresh, so good!! It was seriously so perfect. The staff was great, and the store was really nice."
